He is currently director of the Biodiversity Museum of the University of Alicante/Ciudad de Ibi. He has participated in numerous scientific committees: Ministry of the Environment, National Parks, Climate Change, Spanish Action Plan against Illegal Trade in Wild Species (TIFIES) and the List of Wild Species under Special Protection Regime (LESRPE) among others. He has been distinguished with the Castilla y León Environmental Protection Award (2003), the Augusto González de Linares International Environment Award (2007) granted by the University of Cantabria and the Regional Ministry of Environment of the Government of Cantabria, Doctor Honoris Causa by the National University of Piura, Peru (2005), the Diploma of the Mam Indians of Chiapas, Mexico (2004) for the protection of cloud forests and Honorary Member of the Spanish Entomological Association (2023).
Antonio Ricarte, born in 1981, holds a degree in Biology and a PhD from the University of Alicante, where he has been Full Professor of Zoology since 2023. Throughout his career, he has held relevant positions such as E.C. Pelham-Clinton Fellow in Entomology at National Museums Scotland (UK), researcher at the University of Novi Sad (Serbia) and Distinguished Researcher at the University of Alicante.
His main line of research focuses on the biodiversity and conservation of syrphids (Diptera: Syrphidae), a key group of pollinators. He has led a national Fauna Ibérica project on eristaline syrphids and two regional projects dedicated to the syrphid fauna of the island of Menorca, as well as participating in more than fifty scientific projects of various kinds. He has played an advisory role in the IUCN European Red List of Syriphidae, where he has assessed 73 species.
He is the author or co-author of 52 species new to science and has more than 100 scientific publications, mainly articles. He has made 57 contributions to national and international conferences and meetings, including a plenary lecture on saproxylic syrphids at the 8th International Symposium on Syrphidae.
He has supervised numerous academic papers, including two PhD theses on syrphids. He has also been editor of Zootaxa for nine years and reviewer for more than 50 prestigious scientific journals, such as Systematic Entomology. In 2007 he received the First National Entomology Award and, as part of his informative work, he shares the fascinating diversity of syrphids on social networks through his account @sirfidos, which has more than 760 followers.

He has published more than 60 research papers and book chapters related to his speciality (bees and pollination) in different national and international scientific journals.
He is a regular speaker at associations, schools and other science events. His talks and activities are mainly related to pollinators, but he has also focused on other topics, always related to zoology.
Graduate in Environmental Sciences, Master in Protected Natural Spaces with experience in conservation and protection of spaces and species at national and international level, both in the private sector and NGOs and currently in the public sector, as Programme Director of the Subdirectorate General for Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity, of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, where she has participated in the State Strategy for Green Infrastructure, the management of the CITES Convention in Spain and has recently joined the coordination of the National Strategy for the Conservation of Pollinators.
Alberto Ferreres Castiel is one of the world's leading entomologists in the field of insect vectors of plant pathogens. His fields of expertise include insect behaviour, insect ecology, virus-vector-plant interactions, epidemiology of viruses and other plant pathogens, effects of climate change on insect vector biology and ecology, and integrated pest management. He is one of the 2% most influential scientists in the world according to a study conducted by Stanford University. He has led numerous international projects and has published more than 300 articles and 30 book chapters on the biology, ecology and transmission of viruses and bacteria by insect vectors. He has shown great commitment to the training of students, many of whom are now scientists, entrepreneurs and prestigious professors. He also stands out for his high capacity to transfer the results of his research to the agricultural sector, an activity he has carried out through collaborations with companies in the sector and through his lectures as an invited speaker at national and international conferences and congresses. He has held several prominent positions in research management, having been a member of the Commission of the Agricultural Sciences Area and the Life Area of the CSIC.
He holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (1988), is a researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) (1988-1990) and Research Professor at the CSIC since 2005. He has more than 40 years of experience in the area of entomology and agricultural phytopathology with postgraduate stays and training in the United States at Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana, USA), Master of Science (1987), a postdoctoral stay at the University of California, Riverside (1989) and a sabbatical year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1997).
Among the management positions he has held are the following: Director of the Environmental Sciences Centre of the CSIC (years 2009-2011), Director of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (ICA) of the CSIC (2006-2011). He is currently head of the research group "Insect Vectors of Plant Pathogens" at the ICA-CSIC Madrid. His research group is the best known worldwide in the field of insect feeding behaviour and the transmission of plant pathogens by insect vectors. This has allowed him to organise several International Congresses and to be elected President of the International Committee on Plant Virus Epidemiology (ICPVE) (part of the International Society for Plant Pathology), a position he held from 2007 to 2019. https://www.isppweb.org/icpve/. Principal Investigator of 25 competitive projects (National Plan and EU) and 18 bilateral projects with foreign entities. He has supervised a total of 18 PhD Theses.
